Job Title: Design Engineer

Status: Salary/exempt

Job Summary:

Works under the supervision of staff engineer and takes direction from Sales Manager to provide specification assistance, value engineering, technical sales assistance and overall support to sales and drafting department. Additional duties include:

• Tenant Improvement responses.
• Project field issue resolution regarding detailing and engineering provided on submitted shop drawings.
• Field repairs and fixes.
• Marketing and Sales related preliminary engineering.
• SST truss design and estimating.
• SSW truss design and estimating.
• Technical support and analysis for SSI associated products, hangers, LVL etc.
• Engineering responses to various engineers, customers, builders.
• Engineering of preliminary design of SSI products for Engineers and Developers for DSA projects, steel to wood conversions and various other commercial projects.

Required knowledge/Skill/Abilities:

Ability to understand the complete Standard Structures Inc. product line (SST, SSI, SSW, HSC & LVL.A full understanding of the production process and capabilities of the manufacturing facility at Windsor. Complete understanding of competitive products and competition strengths and weakness. A full understanding of commercial construction, including jobsite issues and life safety issues regarding design of custom engineered wood products. Must be familiar with various customers and their buying practice, including Engineers, Developers, Framers and code officials. Complete working knowledge of SSI design and specification software.

• Ability to work closely and effectively with a variety of company departments.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:

College degree. Practicing EIT or Licensed Engineer. Minimum of 2 years experience in the design, specification of I-Joist, Plated Trusses, Open Web Pin connected trusses, LVL, LSL, and PSL and laminated beams. Full knowledge of commercial construction and framing systems related to commercial construction. Practical computer skills including the ability to design and specify commercial EWP products.

Job Responsibilities:

Maintains daily phone contact with customers, Engineers, Developers, framers to implement goals of sales department, Engineering and Manufacturing Team. Advises sales manager and Staff Engineer of any market need and competitive market changes regarding product line and competition.
